It All Started With a Bear
At the end of July Matt met Dayle Keith Lewis at the Buckeye Woodcarvers Roundup, which is held at Poor Farmers RV’s & Campgrounds in Fletcher, OH. He was able to take a class with Dayle, and during that time his first chainsaw carving was produced.
After arriving back home he continued to complete some touch ups. Next He burned it, applied multiple stain colors, and then clear coated it. A sign was made for the paws to hold. However, as you will see below, Matt chose to let his new buddy become his helper as he started bear number 2.
Repeat Beginner Project to Build Muscle Memory
And so it began! After you complete one project, we suggest you recreate it a few more times to build your muscle memory. Below are some more bears that have already found new homes. Once you start, you just cannot stop!
Alter Your Original Beginner Chainsaw Carving
Additionally, you can start to experiment with your original project in different positions and sizes. Matt ventured into bears in a log and some mini versions.
Time to Expand Into Other Chainsaw Carving Beginner Projects
By this time Matt had mastered some basic cuts and began to experiment with different shapes. Below you will see examples of a gnome, a pumpkin and an eagle.
